We're Trying Something Big & Need Your Help - And Through Dec. 31 Gifts Are Matched Up To $7,000 For 16 years, Nu Sass has created bold theatre supporting marginalized genders in the arts — all powered by labors of love, passion, and grit. We’ve challenged norms, nurtured new works, and created artistic homes for gender-marginalized artists who rarely see themselves prioritized on DC stages. But to sustain and grow this work, Nu Sass must evolve. For the past decade, I have managed Nu Sass while working full time as a nonprofit fundraising professional. I’ve spent more than a decade using my skills to help other organizations grow. But that stability came at a cost: I was never able to bring my full leadership to Nu Sass every day, even when I knew that doing so could transform the company. The only time in my adult life when I wasn’t working full time was during my breast cancer treatment from June 2024 to April 2025. During those 10 months, the only work I could physically and emotionally manage was running Nu Sass — and even in that incredibly difficult season, the company grew significantly. That proved something essential: When I can bring my full expertise to Nu Sass, we thrive. Now, in the wake of losing my full-time job, I have the rare opportunity to ask myself a life-shaping question: What do I truly want to do next? - Not for a paycheck. - Not for stability. - But for purpose. - For impact. - For the future I want to build. We are attempting to raise $85,000 to fund Nu Sass’s first full-time W-2 Artistic/Executive Director position — with full healthcare coverage. We've raised just shy of $6,000 so far, which has inspired an anonymous donor to offer a matching gift, doubling every dollar up to $7,000! This amount covers: - $65,000 for a sustainable salary of - $10,000 for an annual healthcare premium - $3,000 for a 5% retirement contribution - $7,000 for all employer taxes and insurance required by law This is the real cost of ethical, sustainable leadership in DC.
